Britain says No to War on Iraq - the Protest of the 2 Million London, 15.2.2002

The National Stop The War Coalition estimated that on 15th Feb in Britain and N. Ireland 2 Million people marched against the proposed War in Iraq. It was the biggest peace rally ever held! For a photo report go to http://www.arbeiterfotografie.com/reportage

On the 15th Feb 10 coaches left Staffordshire carrying around 500 people to help swell the crowds in the biggest protest London has ever seen. There were 4 coaches from the Potteries, 4 covering the Stafford area, and 2 from Keele University. The challenge for Staffordshire now is to keep active.

N. Staffs activists close down Esso stations

On Mon 24 Feb, as part of a nationwide action against Esso and its parent company ExxonMobil organised by Greenpeace, activists from N. Staffs disconnected the power supplies and D-locked petrol pumps at eight stations across the N. Staffs region. In all Greenpeace claim that over 100 stations were closed. Greenpeace argue that while the impending War in Iraq is a War for Oil rather than a moral crusade, ExxonMobile (Esso) has done more than any other oil company to secure continued use of fossil fuel. Full reports by The Guardian and Indymedia For more info on Esso - www.greenpeace.org.uk and www.stopesso.com
